FLOTSAM+JETSAM first opened its doors to the public in 2000 as an interior design atelier with a retail component in the Old City section of Philadelphia. The studio practiced a hybrid of interior architecture and fine art, and has been responsible for many estate and historic renovations, as well as the transformation of boutiques, restaurants, and cafes around the Philadelphia area. The store-front offered the finest in home furnishings and decorative art. Meltem Birey, owner and lead designer of the studio, believes strongly in conscientious revitalization, and in contributing back to her city. In 2011, she received an AIA recognition affirming that aspect of her work.

The current incarnation of FLOTSAM+JETSAM is focused on textile and product design. We specialize in digital textiles, decorative pillows + surface treatments, fashion accessories including handbags, ties, and scarves, and kid's décor + girl's fashion. We remain committed to supporting the arts, and continue to make that the driving focus of our design process, as we view all that is created at F+J as functional art.
